Headlight polishing Budapest
Why is headlight polishing important? Over time, the UV protective varnish on your car's polycarbonate headlights will start to yellow. If there is no such protective layer, the material of the car headlight (like all plastic) will start to degrade under the UV rays and a thin, matt layer will form, which will eventually stop letting in as much light. When this happens, and the light does not pass through the material but is converted into heat, the process speeds up dramatically and sooner or later the car will not pass the test.
Anything that the headlamp encounters (typically at high speed), i.e. dust, pebbles, insects, ice particles, when they hit the headlamp, will scratch it in tiny scratches of a few microns. Each such scratch brings the headlamp one step closer to dulling.
When machine polishing a car lamp, if there is a UV protective layer, we lose a few microns of it, just enough to remove the scratches you find here. A few microns is a very thin layer, the car's paint (and the UV protection on the headlight) is typically 70-200 microns thick. Polishing does not harm the headlight or take away any of its thickness, it is usually enough to polish the varnish layer on the headlight.
Removing scratches is an important step because if you don't do this when polishing a lamp at home, the polish can dry into the thin grooves and look as if you've done nothing.
Headlight polishing is carried out with the appropriate polishing pastes and industrial polishing machines. Of course, the headlamp is carefully washed before starting work to ensure that no damage is done to the polished parts immediately adjacent to it and that the outer edge of the headlamp is treated in the same way as the centre.
Important! Sometimes you can hear about miracle products on the internet that, if you apply them, the matte layer disappears immediately. These can be pastes, wipes. It is possible that such a miracle product exists, but we have never heard of it. These 'miracle products' usually contain some kind of solvent that can ruin the headlight, or at least make it much more work to repair the home-finished surface. The headlight can be polished back to its original state, but this requires the right polishing paste, a random orbital sander and polisher and, last but not least, manual labour. This is how we work.
Protection after polishing the headlight is also important, as the surface can crack back. It is also certain that it will tarnish back, it is just a matter of time, usually in 1-3 years. However, this time can be significantly extended by applying a suitable protective coating. Feel free to ask us about this too!
Of course, we also polish the front and rear lights.
